Education

Happy Hens Farm-Based Educational Program for TK-8th Grade is now open for charter families.

A Multi-Day Farm-Based Educational Program that offers a unique and engaging learning experience for students from Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th grade. Set on a working farm, this program blends hands-on agricultural activities with core academic subjects, providing students with practical life skills and a deep connection to the natural world. By integrating farm-based learning with traditional core classes, students gain a holistic education that nurtures both their intellectual and practical abilities.

Program Structure:

Days:
– Tuesday: Project-Based Learning & Farm Activities + Exploration
– Wednesday: Project-Based Learning & Farm Activities + Exploration
– Thursday: Project-Based Learning & Farm Activities + Exploration

Educational Goals:

1. Hands-On Skills: Students develop practical skills through farm-based activities, learning responsibilities such as animal care, gardening, and basic construction. These skills are complemented by academic lessons that tie into their real-world experiences.

2. Core Academics: The program ensures that core academic subjects (literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies) are taught with an emphasis on practical application. This approach helps students understand how their academic knowledge can be applied in real-world scenarios.

3. Environmental Awareness: Students gain an appreciation for nature and sustainability. The program emphasizes environmental stewardship and the importance of sustainable farming practices.

4. Life Skills: Through collaborative projects and daily farm chores, students build essential life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and responsibility.

5. Community Connection: The program fosters a sense of community and connection to the land, providing students with a greater understanding of where their food comes from and the importance of supporting local agriculture.

Students’ progress is assessed through a combination of traditional tests, practical demonstrations, and project-based evaluations. Regular feedback is provided to students and parents to ensure that educational goals are being met and to celebrate achievements.

The Multi-Day Farm-Based Educational Program offers a rich, immersive learning experience that integrates academic instruction with practical farm skills. By engaging students in hands-on activities and connecting their studies to real-world applications, the program nurtures both academic growth and personal development, preparing students for a well-rounded future.
